An Italy and Greece comparison: Where is the interest in denying the\u00a0existence of the migrant workers?<\/strong><\/p>\n

European migration policies, under the leading role of Germany, can be\u00a0<\/span>summarized in the statement coming from Angela Merkel which found the\u00a0<\/span>broader consensus from Macron to Salvini:”We have to honour our\u00a0<\/span>obligations towards people fleeing war and political persecution but the\u00a0<\/span>economical refugees they have to know that there is no place for them in\u00a0<\/span>Europe”.<\/span><\/p>\n

The European fruit and vegetable market, with its volume of hundreds of\u00a0<\/span>billions euros every year, is the only sector – together with logistics\u00a0<\/span>– in constant growth, living on workers without rights, criminalized\u00a0<\/span>before their entry in Europe and segregated in “special zones” where the\u00a0<\/span>social rights are suspended.<\/span><\/p>\n

The aim of the workshop is to draw the attention on the legal situation\u00a0<\/span>and political struggles for the recognition of migrant workers’ rights\u00a0<\/span>in Greece and Italy, two different and similar contexts in Southern\u00a0<\/span>Europe.To the discussion, preceeded by a short video introduction, will\u00a0<\/span>take part Vassili Kerasiotis, the lawer of Manolada court case 2013,\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>crop workers and Italian activists.<\/span><\/p>\n
